Briar & Broadway Brawl!
Today at about 3:30 PM there was a struggle between two men at the intersection of Briar and Broadway. It all started due to one of the men stole clothes from the Universal Gear clothing store just steps away from the intersection. I understand that the prices at that store are severely high but I don’t think the crack-head guy that was stealing could have convinced that store’s demographic to purchase those clothes off of him anyway. Regardless, the two men wrestled through the streets as I watched from Argo Tea, where I was working on my computer until I saw this altercation taking place. Once I saw this taking place I quickly got my camera out and videotaped everything! The shoplifter ran into a cab and was followed after by the off duty cop. There was a struggle within the cab for a couple minutes and a gun shot even went off, although nobody was hit. The on-duty cops showed up very quickly in response to a 911 someone in Argo Tea called in and got the shoplifter on the ground. The whole area was sectioned off and I offered my video to the cops as evidence to what happened. They were very happy and took me down to the station to put it on their computer and let them know what happened — it was all an interesting experience in an unlikely area (East Lakeview is very safe) to say the least.
